Which type of electromagnetic wave is used for satellite navigation?

Radio waves I suspect|||Radio waves, for GPS, specifically frequencies from about 1200 MHz to 1600 MHz. This is between the range of cell phones (900 MHz to 1800 MHz), and lower than that of Wi-Fi (2400 MHz). Note that these frequencies are not related to speed or bandwidth, but more like "colour".

It is hard to choose a frequency for this, since different countries use different frequencies and there may not be a frequency that is unoccupied in every single country.
