Do people realize that using the satellites for navigation is free?

I just bought a combination PDA with GPS and this thing is so cool. It is the Garmin iQue 3600 and there is no service fee for using the satellites. I understand that this is because the satellites are owned by the Government and they were paid for by our tax dollars. I suggest you take advantage of the benefits from this program.|||It is free. That was the government condition in order to finance GPS satellites. This service is accessible to the public, but with a margin of error of 900 ft.|||The margin of error was introduced in order to give US troops an advantage (they got the full accuracy of the system) this has however been turned off years ago and civilians now also get the full accuracy. Though the US reserves the right to switch this inaccuracy back on.

|||thanks a lot buddy|||cool

i didnt know that

(just got 2 points)|||Although the service is free, the devices using the navigation signal are most certainly not free.

The average resolution for ground location is about 3 feet, and not the hundreds of feet cited elsewhere. If the accuracy was 900 feet, the accuracy would be about as accurate as 108 football fields square.

2007 Ford F-150 with built in Sirius Satellite Radio WITHOUT Navigation System?

I was wondering if there is a way to change the default display of my Sirius Sattelite Radio. This question is in regards to radios WITHOUT the navigation system. Currently when you start up the vehicle the radio displays the current channel name and you have to hit the "text" button once to display the current song playing and then again to see the current artist playing and it defaults to current channel each time you turn off the engine and start it back up. I was wondering if there is any way to change the default to display the current artist playing rather than the current channel playing. The manuals do not state if this is a possibility however many manuals for devices are not fully intuitive.

Thanks!|||no that is not possible that is the factory radio works

they all display that way

Where can I get a Viper Security System & Kenwood Navigation System installed?

I just bought a new Viper Security System w/ remote start and a Kenwood DNX9960 Navigation System for my Altima Coupe. The thing is I can't install these things and I don't know where to get them installed. Any help? The navigation system comes with satellite radio and I was wondering how to get that to start working?|||Alot of places man! It just depends how much you want to pay and the quality of the installation.

Since you bought a very nice high quality equipment for your Altima im guessing you want it installed perfect without any worries. So my advice would be to call your nearest/favorite/or most reputable Nissan dealership. Because the guys there are all PROFESSIONALS that know your car the best and can install theses things perfectly without the worry of damaging your car or your Equipment. Though you will have to pay a bit extra as compared to other places but its well worth it if you want it done right the first time.

Otherwise if your looking to save some money on installation go to yellowbook.com. Search for car shops, give each place a call and just ask for a quote for the things you wish to be installed. Alot of theses places have some amateurs or guys in training in their shop so sometimes its not always done right.

I found that out the hard way :( getting my windows tinted and car stereo installed at the place who had the lowest quote. My tint had bubbles in it had go to go back, windows got scratched, and my car door handle screw got lost!

Best of luck, I really hope you find the right shop!

Just one more thing if your looking to get it done quick make sure you ask the shop if they have the part or kits in stock to be able to install them! A lil tip I found out again by the hard way lol.|||Call a local radio/audio shop, they will install it all for you.|||Depending where you live will vary for example places close to me in SD county would be

How is satellite imagery used in the field of navigation?

please include sources or no points|||Several ways. Satellites can show where weather systems are. They can spot icebergs. They can pinpoint the location of the ship (GPS). Water depth can also be monitored.

If my car is Satellite radio ready, what additional equipment do I need?

I have a subscription to Sirius and a portable (suction cups) radio in my other vehicle. I bought a new car with built in navigation and is satellite ready. I want to add the satellite radio. What else do I need to purchase (besides the additional $6.95+/- a month for another subscription).to hook this up? |||If you are working with a factory radio, you need to contact a dealer to have the sat tuner installed.|||If you car is like my Toyota, with nav system and "satellite ready", you'll have to buy the radio add-on at your dealer and have them install it and the antenna (unless your car already has the antenna on the roof). It is ridiculously expensive at around $600. I prefer to go with the less expensive external portable solution, such as the one you already have.

If i buy a navigation system, do ihave to pay some type of monthly subscription to use the gps satellite?

No not at all. The GPS satellites are always on. Once you buy the hardware, it costs nothing to use them.

To address the answer below... the GPS satellites were launched and are supported by the government for military purposes. So our taxes have already paid for it.|||Check with the dealer.

I doubt they are going to provide free service after spending all that money to operate the satellite. Then again, I could be wrong.

Which is better: GPS navigation or voice-assisted navigation through satellite radio??

they both use satelite. the only difference is one is voice assisted but they are both GPS|||gps navigation|||iono|||our GPS talks to us and i find the voice very helpful...it just means you dont have to take your eyes off the road as often
