Is this a good laptop? (Toshiba Satellite A215-S4807)?

http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/rdet鈥?/a>

It's a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4807

Main Specs:

-AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-56

-2048MB memory

-160GB hard drive

-15.4" widescreen

It's at Circuit City for $779.99 after a $150 instant rebate. Is it worth it? I'll mainly be using it for studies, since I'm going to be a college freshman, and I'll also use it lightly for music and movies and stuff.|||The Turion TL-56 is a good processor but the slowest of the ones I would recommend (anything slower wouldn't be worth having). It does tend to run hot so you will notice a warm laptop and it does tend to suck back a lot of power so not that great battery life. A core 2 duo would be faster with better battery life.

2048MB Ram is just what you want for a laptop. 1GB would work but not great for Vista, 4GB is way too much money.

160GB Hard Drive is big for a laptop. The 120GB tends to be the sweet spot where you save money but still get a large drive. Good drive but the price of the machine is higher than you might want because of it.

15.4" Is what I have for monitor and my Toshiba looks great with it.

The x1200 video card on it is also pretty good. You should be able to play a few games if you want (at low settings) and it is way better than the Intel GMA you see on a lot of cheap laptops.

Overall: You would probably be happy with your laptop's POWER but you may not be happy with its portability. It is a bit on the heavy side and lugging it around from class to class could be an issue for you.

If it were me I would look at either a more expensive laptop (by a bit) in the Dell 1420 (lighter and about same power but about $300 more) or go with something a little less expensive and lighter.|||You can get a comparable laptop for the price with a 17" screen.

Toshiba Satellite 17" Widescreen Notebook PC (P205-S6267)

鈥?Intel Core Duo T2350

鈥?120GB hard drive

鈥?Burns DVDs and CDs

鈥?2GB of DDR2 memory

鈥?Built-in 802.11agn wireless

鈥?Windows Vista Home Premium|||its pretty good. not the best, but its good|||Those specs are good (not the best though), although they are very vague, and only a few factors of the computer you want to look at.

-AMD is an ok processor, but you'll notice the same computer with "equivelent" Intel processor will cost slightly more because it's a better processor. Up to you, sounds like AMD should work for your uses.

-The screen size is fine, but for a really nice screen i'd make sure it's got "wsxga"(good) or "wuxga"(better)

-If you want a faster file-access hard drive, try to get a 7200rpm hard drive, i'm guessing the one you listed is a 5400. (the extra rpm is worth the extra $100 or so)

My sister got a Satellite about a year ago.... It's a decent computer, but lately she's been having a problem with her computer either shutting down right after you power it up (seconds after, before anything loads) or if it does start up the screen remains off/black.... I've read up and found this is not the only Toshiba Satellite to do this. I think that Toshiba's Bios is the problem..... So be mindful of that, and do some homework on problems with that specific model|||Yes, it's great! I have a Toshiba Satellite very close to that. I bought mine in January. You won't regret it!! Great laptop. I use mine numerous hours per day. One tip. I would buy at CompUSA rather than Circuit City. Circuit City's warranty plan sucks and it is very difficult to get repairs done. CompUSA is a breeze! They have on-site techs. Only thing I had done was extra memory added. Mine only came with 1G. Also great price! CompUSA will match.|||That is more than what you will need, trust me. I recommend you to visit bestbuy.com they have almost the same models that circuit city has with the same price but without the rebates. This is an excellent choice go for the toshiba.|||Yes. I would highly recommend a Toshiba laptop. In my opinion, Toshiba makes the best laptops.|||get an HP instead. they look better and perform better
